Day One 2024-Aug-18: My original date was Saturday, but we wanted to attended a funeral and take care of some last minute packing. I am starting my 2,168 mile kayaking journey today, with the goal of New Orleans, LA in the next 50 to 60 days. I had a portage problem so put in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Upper River Mile Maker (URM) 1179 at noon on Sunday Aug 18th. This is going to be a challenging experience, much like we all have challenging days. But taking on the challenge and knowing that so many people love and support me, I take all of you with me every paddle.
Day One journey 25 miles (noon to 6:15 pm) stealth camped at URM 1154.
